The 6 Must-Try Makeup Trends In 2021

Try out these 6 makeup tips and tricks to spice up your daily look. We hope you're ready, because glitters are involved.
June 22, 2021

As with fashion, makeup trends are shifting as time passes, and what used to be attractive may not catch the eyes of many today.

You know exactly the kind of makeups we’re talking about.

The kind that will make you go “Did people really use to do makeup like that…?”

And as we navigate the unique circumstances that we are in today, we find ourselves loitering around terms you may be familiar with, like “under the mask makeup”, and the natural looking “no-makeup makeup”.

Today, we shall explore the 6 makeup trends in 2021 that you must try (and will definitely adore). Let’s dive right into it.

p.s. you may be already using some of these tips and tricks. Because they are simply life-changing.

Makeup trend #1: Colour correction

When we discuss covering imperfections, concealer should be your first choice of “weapon”. But there are certain situations where it just doesn’t cut it, like dealing with dark circles or dark spots.

Even reddishness at times.

Which is when colour correction comes in handy – a makeup technique that relies on a range of colourful hues to mask the different tones of your face.

Here are some of your options and what you can do with them.

Green: Neutralises redness to help hide blemishes

Yellow: Effective against discolorations like age spots

Purple: Brightens the skin and counteracts undertones

Peach: Helps disguise dark circles and dark spots. For fair to light skin tone

Bisque: Helps disguise dark circles and dark spots. For light to medium skin tone

Orange: Helps disguise dark circles and dark spots. For medium to dark skin tone

Makeup trend #2: Setting your makeup under the mask to prevent smudges

The #1 face accessory of the year: Masks.

And while some of us may be fans of wearing masks, a universal problem is presented to those who wears makeup.

Your makeup smudges.

To prevent your makeup from transferring to the mask, consider trying out powdered blotting papers.

Simply use the powdered side to start pressing in on your face after the you’re done with the base.

To add the finishing touch, you can use loose powder after this step, to make sure your makeup is truly set in place.

Makeup trend #3: Concealing your eyebrows

To opt for the “no-makeup makeup”, or simply a natural-looking makeup, concealing the eyebrows becomes an essential step – especially for those who did eyebrow embroideries.

The whole point is to “lighten” your eyebrows, making it full but not too “loud”. You wouldn’t want all of the attention to be on your brows.

After concealing your brows, blend out the end of your brows to achieve a nice gradient. The end product should be a lighter brow at the front, and it slowly darkens towards the end.

Tip: Go for a brow colour that is 2 shades lighter than your hair colour.

As you shift from the darker end of your brows to the lighter end at the front, start blending it inwards towards your nose.

This tip doubles as a nose contour, accentuating your features, creating a more defined look.

Finish off your eyebrows with a coat of brown mascara, giving off the same “softer” look that complements the whole “no-makeup” vibes.

Makeup trend #4: Drawing fine lines onto your brows

This step isn’t a must, but has become increasingly trendy nowadays.

To achieve that thick-looking brow, simply use an angled brush to draw in thin lines where the hairs would naturally grow. Follow the direction where your hair grows while keeping your strokes short and thin.

Remember to fill in the spaces that are sparse, and avoid the beginning of the brow. Otherwise, you risk having your brows look “blockish”.

This way, you can create realistic looking “hairs”.

Once again, don’t forget to do it in small strokes. Emphasis on small strokes.

Makeup trend #5: Brown eyeliner!

This is your cue to stop treating your black eyeliner as your holy-grail product.

Basically, a brown eyeliner acts as a contour for your eyelids, giving you the illusion of thicker lashes from faraway. Unless you’re going for a bold, full-makeup kind of look, brown eyeliners can actually give your eyes more depth – while achieving a “no-makeup” makeup look.

More than that, brown eyeliners can even double as an eyeshadow base, or a brow pencil, depending how compatible it is with your makeup look for the day.

It is becoming more universal, and it is way less intense than black. Based on the shade of it, you can even go for bolder looks without having to go back to the staple that is black eyeliners.

Application is also easier, because a smudged brown eyeliner can also give off the smoky look – and that is something you cannot replicate with black eyeliners.

Enough of us singing praises about the brown eyeliner. Start adding it into your makeup arsenal!

Makeup trend #6: Glitters

This may sound a little unconventional, and even extreme to some. For the most part, you may not even have glitter in your makeup kit.

But now that we have to wear masks, a lot of attention is being diverted to your eyes – and you’d want to make them look as alive as possible.

To go for that watery-eyes look, you can simply add a dash of glitter to your eyes.

Without looking too “extra”, you can add glitters under your eye, and even directly on your eyelids.

The key to pulling this off is to keep it minimal, because the glitters themselves already attract enough attention.
